The Battle over Microsoft Access
12-Feb-2021
Microsoft Access continues to be one of the most useful tools on the desktop for people who work with
data, and yet one of it’s legacies is the positive and negative fallout from the empowerment that it gave
to regular people in taking charge of their data. Suddenly, regular users could make that database
application they so desperately needed for their department or business. Yet, on the flip side were the
IT support staff who had to support these applications; often discovering them after the builders were no
longer there.
Take a journey with me going back nearly 30 years to take a look at this unique phenomenon, and find out
how this now mature technology has evolved in its usage in data engineering, analytics and data science
realms.
